Suzanne Vetter-M’Caw: Materials Writing Workshop
This event is geared towards teachers who wish to write and edit their own materials. We will begin with a familiarisation with the CEFR and ways to ensure the relevant level is selected in each case. We will also briefly review test fundamentals such as reliability and validity.
An important part of item writing is the process of editing in order to ensure that each item tests what it should and is fair to the students. Taking examples from telc materials, we will discuss what makes a “good” or “bad” item and apply this methodology. Participants will learn to appreciate the importance of looking at items from different perspectives and go home with a toolkit to develop their own material independently.
